An online diary is a personal diary or journal that is published on the World Wide Web on a personal website or a diary-hosting website. They have existed since at least 1994. As a community formed, these publications came to be almost exclusively known as online journals. Today they are almost exclusively called blogs, though some differentiate by calling them personal blogs. The running updates of online diarists combined with links inspired the term 'web log' which was eventually contracted to form the word 'blog'.
Blogging and diaries:what's the difference?
A blog is in many ways like a diary and in many ways different from a diary. Think about the following when comparing a blog to a typical diary. The difference between online diary(blog) and traditional diary:
- A blog lets you to express yourself to (potentially) a very wide audience. Ok, I placed the word "potentially" on parentheses because even though your blog is on the Web, that doesn't mean you have to let anyone to read your ideas.Maybe you only wanna share your ideas with a few of your best friends, or maybe u don't wanna share them with anyone at all. However, if you choose to open your blog to wider readership, you can use hyperlinks to help frame your ideas and to show the things you are interested in, instead of just writing about them.
- A blog can be a "two-way" diary, where other people comment on what you write. This is perhaps the biggest difference between a blog and a regular diary, and also the biggest advantage of a blog.A blog can give your readers a virtually unlimited amount of space to respond to your ideas, as well as a way to organize all this communication so that it can be read easily. Indeed, this two-way communication is the real benefit of blogging.
